'Scooter thief' pretends to be fast asleep in bed after police chase

A suspected thief reportedly pretended to be fast asleep in bed after abandoning a stolen scooter in the road during a police chase.

Knowsley Police say they attempted to speak to the scooter rider on Church road, Halewood yesterday just after 5pm but the rider failed to stop, sparking the chase.

Unable to shake off police, the suspected thief abandoned the scooter in the middle of the road on Bailey’s Lane and ran into a nearby property.

Police said officers entered the home to find a 22-year-old man in bed pretending to have been asleep.

The man was arrested after drugs were also found on the property after a search.

Police said the scooter had been stolen during a theft in Warrington earlier this month.
