Scooter driver seriously injured as smash with parked car shuts road

A woman has been seriously injured after her electric scooter hit a parked car in a crash which has closed a road in Liverpool today.

An air ambulance was among four ambulance vehicles sent to the scene after the female rider, in her 30s, was hurt in the accident on Central Avenue in Speke just before 9am.

An air ambulance could be seen parked in a nearby street as paramedics treated the woman at the scene.

North West Ambulance Service confirmed two road ambulances and a rapid response vehicle were also sent in response to "an accident involving a car and a scooter".

A spokeswoman said: "We have taken a patient by land ambulance to hospital, a female patient in her 30s with serious injuries."

Police confirmed the scooter rider suffered a head injury.

A Merseyside Police spokeswoman said: "We were called at just after 9am following reports of a collision between a parked Ford Fiesta and an electric scooter on Central Avenue in Speke.

"The female rider of the scooter suffered a head injury and has been taken to hospital. The roads were temporarily closed but have now been reopened."

Arriva North West said buses were being diverted via Hale Road.

Travel monitors INRIX said Central Avenue was closed in both directions from Western Avenue to Lovel Road but was reopened at 11.40am.
