Scientists issue urgent warning after fake MDMA found circulating in Manchester

Scientists have issued an urgent warning after a synthesised drug was found circulating in Manchester.

4-Chloromethcathinone has reportedly been mis-sold across the city as MDMA.

Anyone who falls unwell after taking the substance is urged to seek urgent medical attention.

Researchers Manchester Drug Analysis and Knowledge Exchange, or MANDRAKE, posted a warning on its Twitter account on Friday (July 23).

The licenced scientific resource, based at Manchester Metropolitan University, works in partnership with key stakeholders to provide chemical analysis for harm-reduction and intelligence sharing.

In a tweet, the organisation said: “WARNING! 23/07/2021. Analytical confirmation, by MANDRAKE of 4-chloromethcathinone (4CMC, clephedrone) in samples mis-sold as crystal #MDMA circulating in #Manchester . If unwell please seek medical attention.”
