Scientists and Covid heroes recognised in Queen's Birthday Honours list

Respected names in science, medicine, business and education were recognised alongside community heroes and a superstar footballer in the Queen's Birthday Honour's list.

Among them is Liverpool-based business leader and chair of Liverpool China Partnership, Paul Kalle-Grover.

Paul has been awarded an MBE for services to international trade and investment.

On accepting the honour, Paul said: "As chair of the Liverpool China Partnership, I am proud to be given this honour in recognition of my work with the Department for International Trade over more than a decade, as well as the great work being done by the LCP to promote the Liverpool City Region while supporting others on their own export journey."

For her outstanding service to people with autism and learning disabilities, Huyton born Paula McGowan has been awarded an OBE.

Paula has campaigned for equality of health and social care for intellectually disabled and or autistic people since the death of her son Oliver in 2016.

There were also honours for Liverpool FC captain Jordan Henderson who has been awarded and MBE for his services for football and charity.

But as well as Premier League footballers, MBE's also went to community heroes from the Merseyside area.

They include postmaster Sara Barlow, for services to business and the community in Rainhill; Martin Blondel, for services to the community in St Helens particularly during the pandemic; and Christopher Edwards, for his services to learning disabilities cricket.

The list of people from Merseyside and Liverpool City Region who have been recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours list is below
