Scientist from Arkalgud to head Congress’s Finland unit

MYSURU: Sam Pitroda, chairman of Indian Overseas Congress department of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) has named Komal Kumar Javarappa as the country president of the Finland unit for two years.

Komal, 35, who hails from Arkalgud in Hassan district obtained MSc and PhD from the University of Mysore. He was awarded a PhD in environmental science by the UoM.

Indian Overseas Congress department secretary Aarathi Krishnan confirmed Komal’s appointment.

Komal started his career at Linköping University Hospital, Sweden as a researcher. In 2016 he moved to Helsinki University Hospital, Finland as a scientist. Komal is conducting research on environmental and health impact of pollution, specifically focusing on blood cancer.

Komal’s family members stay in Mysuru and Arkalgud. “I am honoured. Congress ideology is close to my heart,” he said.

“My focus areas will include improving environment and health, and educational infrastructure in the country. Compared to the northern European countries, the environment, health and educational standards in the country are still low. I want to use politics as a tool to bring changes in the system,” he told TOI.
