Science Weekly podcast: the mathematics of sport

This week Alok Jha meets John D Barrow, professor of mathematical science at the University of Cambridge and author of Mathletics.

In this extended interview Alok and John discuss the science of sport, from Wimbledon to the Tour De France, from track and field to aquatics. In the midst of the summer of sport, Alok and John explore how mathematics and a better scientific understanding of sporting performance are allowing athletes to break records and push their physical limits.

John is also director of the Millennium Mathematics Project, which aims to improve understanding of mathematics among young people. For more information on the project and to access educational resources, click here. For a full list of John's popular science writing on mathematics, click here.
