Science Weekly podcast: Sex, dosh and dark matter

This week on Science Weekly with Ian Sample, we meet author, broadcaster and cosmologist Marcus Chown to discuss his encyclopedic new book What a Wonderful World: One Man's Attempt to Explain the Big Stuff.

Marcus is best known for his popular science writing on cosmology but in his new book he tackles everything from sex to finance, from the complexity of the human brain to the mystery of dark matter.

Joining Ian is comedian and science geek Helen Arney along with podcast regular Robin McKie, the Observer science editor.

Helen discusses the importance of Ada Lovelace Day as a focus and inspiration for young women to work in science and technology. Helen will be one of the participants at a special Ada Lovelace Day event at Imperial College London on 15 October at 7pm. Click here for more information.

We also had time to discuss some of this week's big science news stories, including the first 3D printer in space and the first real-life Jedi lightsaber (or maybe not).
