Science Weekly podcast: Mark Miodownik is mad about materials

This week Alok Jha meets scientist, author and broadcaster Mark Miodownik to talk about his latest book Stuff Matters.

Mark explains why being stabbed on a train platform as a child awoke his interest in stainless steel. From then onwards he was entranced by everyday materials, from steel and concrete to silicon and plastic.

Alok is joined by Guardian health editor Sarah Boseley to discuss the recent release of a disturbing report by the World Health Organization on violence against women. Sarah met the report's authors Claudia Garcia-Moreno of the WHO and Dr Charlotte Watts from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
