Science Weekly podcast: How to achieve success through failure

This week Alok Jha meets economist and writer Tim Harford to discuss his thought-provoking take on success and science in his new book Adapt.

Alok attends Bright Club in London to find out if scientists can do stand-up. He meets first-time comedian Sam Tazzyman whose routine was all about his field of study: sperm. Bright Club is run by University College London and is pitched as an experiment testing the theory that academics and scientists can communicate with audiences through comedy.

Rounding up this week's science news stories Alok is joined by the Guardian's science correspondent Ian Sample and podcast regular Nell Boase. They discuss revelations that the UK government's Fukushima plans were based on the scenario that radioactive emissions at the power station would be bigger than those at Chernobyl, and a piece of research that suggests the brains of people who live in cities work differently from those of people who live in the country.
