This week on the show we have a feature interview with Dr Kevin Fong on the publication of his new book Extremes: Life, Death and the Limits of the Human Body.
Kevin is a practicing anesthetist, broadcaster and Wellcome Trust engagement fellow. His new book explores how extreme environments and conditions – from the Antarctic to low earth orbit, from the battle of Britain to a mission to Mars – test and enable scientific and medical understanding of our physiology.
The Guardian's Alok Jha met with Kevin Fong to discuss how his book also acts as a medical memoir tracing his own journey from practice in a busy London emergency ward to his work with Nasa on the effects of space on the human body.
