Science Weekly: Memory on trial

Before listening to this podcast, we highly recommend you watch this video so you can take part in our mini-experiment.

Professor Chris French and Professor Tim Valentine from the psychology department at Goldsmiths University of London look at how the failings of human memory can lead to gross miscarriages of justice.

Chris tells us about research into "memory recovery" techniques and false memories of sexual abuse. Tim recalls an example of the gullibility of human memory relating to his involvement in the Lockerbie bombing case.

We go behind the scenes as the finishing touches are applied to the latest exhibition at London's Science Museum. Its director, Professor Chris Rapley and Alex Burch accompanies us on a hard hat tour of the new atmosphere gallery, which takes a close look at climate science.

In our show-and-tell section, podcast regulars Nell Boase, Ian Sample and Alok Jha look at evidence that appears to show we can see into the future and the first direct detection of oxygen on another world.
