Science Weekly Extra: The Natural History Museum's new 'cocoon'

A metamorphosis has begun at London's Natural History Museum.

An eight-storey high 'cocoon' structure has been unveiled which will open to the public in September 2009.

The £78m building is the second phase of the Darwin Centre and will be home to 20 million plant and insect specimens.

It is being called the most significant development at the museum since it moved to South Kensington in 1881.
