Science and Industry Museum forced to close due to water issues in Manchester city centre

The Science and Industry Museum (SIM) has been forced to close due to water issues in Manchester city centre.

SIM said in a Tweet that it would not be open for the rest of today (Friday) due to issues with the water supply.

United Utilities said there had been a problem due to maintenance work being carried out the M3 area.

The problem has now been resolved, an official said.

An updated statement posted on the United Utilities website said: "Good news, we’ve now rectified a technical fault in the M3 area of Manchester and your taps should be flowing again.

"However, it may take up to two hours for your water pressure to return to normal.

"You may also experience some discolouration of your water, this should clear after a short time."

In an earlier Tweet, SIM said: "Sadly the museum will not be open for the rest of today due to an issue affecting the M3 postcode meaning many places have no water.

"We will post an update and hope to be open again soon."

The Manchester Evening News has contacted the museum for a response.
