ST. LOUIS _ Jaden Schwartz broke a marathon goal-less streak and the Blues extended their winning streak to seven games with a dominating 8-3 win over New Jersey on Tuesday at Enterprise Center.
It's the most goals scored by the Blues since they had eight against Edmonton on Nov. 21, 2017. The last time the Blues had a seven-game win streak was in the 2014-15 season.
Schwartz scored his first goal since Dec. 18 on a shot from the blueline that caromed in off a Devil player. It was his first goal with someone in the net since Nov. 9. Schwartz had played 417 minutes and 37 seconds without scoring and had taken 72 shots on goal without finding the net.
The Blues also got first-period goals from Alex Pietrangelo and Ivan Barbashev as the Blues peppered New Jersey with 20 shots on goal in the first period, matching their season high. Vladimir Tarasenko had an assist on Pietrangelo's goal to extend his point streak to a career-high nine games. He has seven goals and six assists in that run.
In the second period, Ryan O'Reilly put the Blues up 4-1 just 30 seconds in when a turnover led to a breakaway. Mackenzie MacEachern got his third goal of the season on a breakaway of his own and then Tyler Bozak got the final goal when his pass toward Pat Maroon in the crease defelcted in off a New Jersey stick.
It looked for a moment like Schwartz would have a second goal, as he knocked in a rebound of his own miss, but the referees ruled goalie interference and wiped out the goal.
It was the fourth time in the past six games that the Blues have taken a 2-0 lead in a game. Curiously, in those four games, the Blues then gave up a goal to make it 2-1 and then scored themselves to make it 3-1.
In the third period, the Blues got a goal 45 seconds in on a backhand shot by Pietrangelo in a four-on-four situation. New Jersey got a goal in a five-on-three and the Blues pushed the lead back to six on a short-handed goal by Barbashev after he and Alexander Steen had a two-on-one break.
Blues goalie Jordan Binnington improved his record to 10-1-1.
