NEW YORK _ Tyler Chatwood walked four batters in 5 1/3 innings and paid a price for a walk to No. 9 hitter Amed Rosario that preceded a two-run home run by Brandon Nimmo in the third inning.
But Chatwood and reliever Randy Rosario combined to limit the damage through six innings, and the Cubs rallied for six runs in the seventh and eighth innings Friday night to earn a 7-4 win over the Mets at Citi Field.
Kris Bryant's two-out single off former University of San Diego teammate Paul Sewald snapped a 2-2 tie and capped a three-run rally in the seventh, which started when Addison Russell singled off starter Zack Wheeler.
Tommy La Stella executed a hit-and-run play with a single, marking his 12th pinch hit. Sewald replaced Wheeler and surrendered a sacrifice fly to Kyle Schwarber, and Ben Zobrist followed with a game-tying double before Bryant's go-ahead single to right center.
Schwarber smacked his 11th home run, a three-run shot, in the eighth off Sewald. The Cubs finished with 16 hits, with Zobrist and Albert Almora Jr. collecting three hits apiece.
Chatwood, working primarily from the stretch position, issued a leadoff walk to Nimmo in the bottom of the first but got some help as catcher Chris Gimenez threw out Nimmo on a steal attempt, and Almora made a sliding catch of a deep drive by Jay Bruce on the warning track in right center with runners at first and second to end the inning.
Almora collected an infield single in the fourth and has now reached safely in his last 12 games against the Mets dating back to June 30, 2016.
