Schools say farewell to Home Link worker who devoted decades to families

Teachers, parents and pupils at four primary schools have said goodbye to a treasured member of staff.

Jim Williamson has been a Home Link worker at Cochrane Castle, Thorn, Auchenlodment and Fordbank primary schools in Johnstone for several years.

His role was to work with parents and families on any issues the child may have at home ranging from things like bereavement to school attendance.

Graham Mothersole, acting headteacher at Cochrane Castle, said: “Jim has worked for Renfrewshire’slocal authority for 28 years and has been part of the Cochrane Castle family for approximately 20
years.

“He has worked with many of our families and I know from communication with parents that the work he did was very much appreciated.

“Many liked the fact that Jim was always on the other end of the phone to offer support and guidance.

“Jim is a ‘well kent’ face around the campus and I know that both staff and children are going to miss him very much.

“Many of the children have commented on how much they are going to miss Jim and the time he spent with them one-to-one and in group sessions.”

As well as his formal role as a Home Link worker, Jim also managed the Cochrane Castle football team and always attended the school’s P7 valedictory service and prom as well as many P7 residential trips.

Mr Mothersole added: “I know I speak for everyone at Cochrane Castle when I say that we will be sorry to see Jim go.

“We hope that his retirement allows him to fulfil all of his dreams with his wife Jennifer and his children Tom and
