School children in Newport will go back to school during the first week after half term, it has been confirmed.
Newport council has confirmed it is working on a "flexible approach" which will allow foundation phase children to return to school during the week of February 22, after half term.
It leaves schools with the option to decide which days they will welcome back pupils.
Last week the Welsh Government said the youngest pupils aged three to seven could start to return from February 22 as coronavirus rates continue to fall.
But a number of councils in Wales have already said pupils will not be going back on that date, including Wrexham Council, which said it will bring three to seven year-olds back from February 26 at “the very earliest” depending on coronavirus rates.
Swansea, Caerphilly, Bridgend and Powys councils have also said they are planning to bring three to seven year-olds back by February 26.

A spokesperson from Newport council confirmed children would be going back the week of February 22 but that there was no set day for all schools to return.
"The safety and well-being of pupils and staff has been our main priority throughout and this remains the case as we consider the return of Foundation Phase children to our schools.
"We are working closely with head teachers on a flexible approach to their return during the first week in line with the expectations of Welsh Government.
"Our approach will allow for appropriate planning, preparation and the integration of blended and face-to-face learning."
