Schools in East Kilbride area ranked from best to worst by Higher results

Strathaven Academy has been ranked as the best school in South Lanarkshire with the publication of the latest table listing the percentage of pupils attaining five Highers.

The Times has once again revealed the top performing schools in the country - along with the worst - for 2018/19.

Strathaven is 22nd out of 344 with 58 per cent of pupils attaining five Highers.

Schools in East Kilbride fare less well with Duncanrig Secondary coming out on top in the town at number 68 (44 per cent with five Highers).

This is followed by St Andrew's and St Bride's High School at 88 (42 per cent) with Calderglen High languishing at 141 (35 per cent).

The results for East Kilbride are in stark contrast to East Renfrewshire - which serve Eaglesham and Waterfoot.

Mearns Castle High School comes second with 75 per cent of pupils achieving five Highers.

St Ninian's High School is fourth (73 per cent) and Williamwood High School is ninth (70 per cent).

Jordanhill in Glasgow was named Scotland's best state school - for the fifth year in a row.

The figures show that generally more deprived areas have poorer results.

Councillor Paul O’Kane, education convener at East Renfrewshire Council, said: "Each year our schools deliver outstanding exam results and it is testament to the hard work of all our pupils, staff and parents."
