Pupils from a Wishaw primary school got the chance to quiz locals Scotland stars ahead of the team’s first match at the Euros.
Stephen O’Donnell and David Turnbull answered questions from Thornlie Primary kids during a Q&A hosted by Clyde 1 Superscoreboard's Gordon Duncan.
Primary six pupils at the school have been studying the Euros as a topic in class.
“It’s been great”, said one pupil, Mia-Rose. “It’s combined geography, technology and literacy, as well as learning about your own country and culture. But my highlight was getting to talk to Scotland players.”
The children were delighted on Friday when their teachers informed them that they would be able to ask questions during a live link up to the squad’s training camp.
Local heroes Stephen and David were only too happy to take part.
“It was a highlight of the topic,” said pupil Harry Hadden.
“We got to find out what it’s like behind the scenes, and what motivated those players to get where they are today.
“Imagine, they came from Wishaw, and they were boys just like us trying to do their best, and now they’re representing Scotland.”
Class teacher Mrs Kirkland added: “We’ve number of pupils who play for the same local clubs that David and Stephen played for. Their message was really important: work hard, dream big and stick at it.
"The fact that Gordon, David and Stephen gave this time to a small local school also sends a strong message about giving something back to the community and about staying loyal to your roots.
“We’re really grateful to them and our kids loved it. Now we just wish them all the best in the games.”
