Schoolgirl seriously injured after crash in Ramsbottom

A schoolgirl has suffered serious injuries in a crash in Ramsbottom.

Emergency services were called to the smash, involving two vehicles, at about 8.30am.

It happened at the junction of Peel Brow and Whalley Road, near to the Eagle and Child pub.

Paramedics treated the girl, believed to be aged 12, before rushing her to hospital.

Following the crash, Whalley Road was blocked in both directions.

Bus services in the area were also affected.

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said: "We were called to the junction of Peel Brow and Whalley Road at about 8.30am on Thursday.

"There has been a collision involving two vehicles.

"We treated one patient, a female of approximately 12 years old, and took them to hospital. The injuries look quite serious."

Greater Manchester Police have been approached for more information.
