One woman was showered with praise after editing her daughter's homework to make it more balanced.
Author William Sutcliffe shared his wife's work on Twitter - where the pair were praised for criticising "sexist" norms.
The homework - which featured a series of maths problems - included questions about women trying to lose weight and going on spa breaks.
Mr Sutcliffe tweeted: "My daughter’s “curriculum for excellence” maths homework (used throughout Scotland) features sums about women going on spa breaks and calculating weight loss; men buying bikes and doing sit-ups.
"Very unimpressed wife has changed the names on the worksheet."
The sheet included sums to figure out how much weight Ellie had lost, and how much money Dara had spent on a mountain bike.
In each case, the names have been edited to reverse the gender of the person in question.
Incurring the wrath of parents everywhere, the picture of the homework spared a furious backlash.
One mum replied: "Schools are some of the worst places for casually reinforcing sexist stereotypes."
Another tweeted: "Curriculum for Excellence? Curriculum for Reinforcing Gender Stereotypes more like."
A third added: "When you hear teachers say "but girls and boys are different - they just are".
"No, you make them different with s*** like this."
A fourth replied: "Absolutely, it's so depressing."
Lots of people also highlighted how the homework featured a woman losing 20 percent of her weight in a week - which is extremely dangerous.
According to the NHS, anyone looking to lose weight should lose up between 0.5 to 1kg a week.
One woman asked: "Seriously, what the hell are they doing to women at this god-awful spa... to lose 17kg in a week!!
"Chopping off limbs?"
Another sarcastically added: "Start them young on the eating disorders I always say!"
A third replied: "It’s all kinds of wrong but also - is Ellie ok?
"You can’t ‘lose’ 2 and a half stone in a week at a ‘health resort’. What went on there?"
A fourth responded: "You'd think even a dyed in the wool misogynist would at least think "nah, somebody's going to make a fuss about the weight loss one."
