Schoolgirl rushed to hospital after 'falling out of the rear doors of bus' in Co Cork

A schoolgirl was rushed to hospital after allegedly falling out of a bus in west Cork.

The incident happened in the Ballinascarthy area in Clonakilty on Wednesday morning.

The youngster was rushed to hospital by ambulance and the bus was impounded while the road was briefly shut, Cork Beo reports.

The full extent of her injuries are not known, however a garda spokesman confirmed they're "non life-threatening."

He said: "Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a road traffic incident at Ballinascarthy, Clonakilty, Co. Cork this morning, 6th October 2021.

"A juvenile female teen was taken to Cork University Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. Enquiries are ongoing."

One line of enquiry is that the bus may have had all its seats full resulting in some students standing up.

Bus Eireann have confirmed that they are investigating the incident.

"Bus Éireann has been notified of an incident involving a student on a post-primary service in Co Cork this morning Wednesday 6 October 2021.

"Emergency services attended at the scene, the student was transferred to Cork University Hospital and a Garda investigation is ongoing. Bus Éireann is also investigating the circumstances of this incident

"Bus Éireann operates the school transport scheme on behalf of the Department of Education, 90% of routes are operated by sub-contractors and 44 million student trips are made on school transport services annually," a spokesperson said.
