Schoolgirl raped by auto-rickshaw driver

A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped by an auto-rickshaw driver in Medchal police station limits. The incident, police said, took place on March 31, but the parents after much hesitation approached the police and lodged a complaint late on Monday.

Police said Venkataiah, aged 50, was a known person to the victim. On Thursday, the girl, along with her friend, was walking back home from school when Venkataiah offered her lift. He had ensured that only she got in the vehicle. Only the next day, the parents came to know about the incident through one of the teachers.

Medchal police have booked the accused for rape and under relevant provisions of The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. An investigation was opened.
