Schoolgirl, 11, hit by van as police shut down Ayrshire road

Police have shut down an Ayrshire road this morning after a schoolgirl was hit by a van.

The 11-year-old was struck by the vehicle just before 9am on the Sorbie Road area of Ardrossan.

Cops have confirmed that emergency services remain at the scene and the road is currently closed.

The scene of the incident is just across the road from Ardrossan Academy.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 8.45am on Monday, November 1, officers were called to the Sorbie Road area of Ardrossan, following a report of a crash involving a van and an 11-year-old girl pedestrian.

"Emergency services remain at the scene and the road is currently closed.”
