Her injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

The driver of the Ford Ka stayed at the scene to assist police with their enquiries.

A spokesperson from Merseyside Police said: "At around 4pm today (Monday 6 December) officers were called to a report of a collision involving a Ford Ka and a young girl on Queens Drive, Stoneycroft.

"The young girl was taken to hospital with serious injuries that are currently not life threatening."

Officers closed the road in one direction whilst they dealt with the incident causing traffic chaos in the area.

One witness described the area as being like 'a car park' while another said it was 'gridlocked'.

Buses were disrupted with Arriva and Stagecoach both having to divert their services.

The road has since been reopened but traffic is still struggling.
