Schoolgirl from Bathgate running marathon for West Lothian foodbank

A girl from West Lothian is running a marathon in seven days to raise funds for the West Lothian foodbank.

Jill Russell from Bathgate is running six kilometres a day over seven days to get to the 42.2km distance alongside her dad, Mark, who says he has been using the opportunity to get fit again. The primary seven pupil from Simpson Primary School decided to raise money for the foodbank after chatting through the fundraising options with her parents.

Mark explained: “Jill had been looking at various things to do after seeing Captain Tom and the like on the news.

“At first she was wanting to bake for our neighbours but we had to explain to her that this wasn’t possible because of the risk of spreading infection.

“It was then my wife had mentioned to her about foodbanks and that they currently were giving out much more food than normal so that is what triggered her to choose them.

“I have been going out with Jill every day on her runs and am struggling as much as she is! We have been using an app to track our distance each day and I am just managing to keep up with her so far.”
