Schoolgirl, 5, dies in poolside accident on family holiday in Germany

A five-year-old schoolgirl has died while on holiday with her family in Germany, after a poolside accident.

Emmy Eckert is believed to have been abroad with her parents and three siblings when the accident happened on Thursday, August 8.

Emmy was a student at Scoil Mhuire Ballincollig in Cork.

Her young classmates parents were made aware of her death this morning, when they received a text alert from the school with the tragic news, CorkBeo reports.

A GoFundme page  has been set up by a family friend to help with the funeral costs.

The page set up by Darren Lauser is a fundraiser on behalf of Emmy's parents Andreas and Darlene Eckert.

Darren's post reads: "When your 5 year old dies suddenly from an accident, it is hard enough without the stress of financial pressure.

"Please join me, and others of like precious faith, in bearing this burden."

A comment on the site from Mrs Eckert, who uploaded four images of Emmy, with her family and siblings, said: "We would like to thank you for this wonderfull support.

" It is a blessing to have you all. Love, Andreas and Darlene."

Almost €9,000 has been raised so far.
