Schoolgirl, 15, batters security guard with claw hammer in shocking fairground attack

A security guard is lucky to be alive after a 15-year-old school girl battered him with a claw hammer at a fairground.

David Harley was working at Douglas Cordonas Funfair in Dumfries when the teenage thug thumped the side of his head on Friday night.

Medics told the 22-year-old he narrowly missed death as the blow was just above his left ear. Had the lout hit David a fraction higher, he might not be alive today or have been brain damaged.

Electrician David has taken on shifts as a security guard at the popular fair for the past couple of years.

He was ushering a group of young boys from the generator behind a burger van when the thug struck.

Scots crash victim woke up from coma only able to speak a foreign language

He was left concussed and is waiting to hear from doctors about the damage done to his head.

David said: “I still have spasms and twitches down my left arm. All I was doing was asking a group of young boys to move on from behind the burger van as it’s dangerous to hang around them.

“All of a sudden, I had been hit on the head and was on the ground feeling dizzy. I turned round and saw the young girl. I couldn’t believe how young she was. Police came straightaway and took her to the station, which was good.

“That girl was not carrying a claw hammer in her rucksack to go down to the fair for no reason. What if I’d been hit in the wrong place? What if she’s attacked a child?”

David was treated at Dumfries Royal Infirmary and released the next day.

Douglas Cordonas Funfair would not comment on the incident.

Police said: “Police were called to Whitesands car park in Dumfries at about 7.50pm on Friday, March 22. A woman was arrested in connection with an alleged assault.”
