Schoolgirl, 13, dies after falling off Tesco roof despite heroic efforts of passing nurse

A schoolgirl died after falling from a roof despite the best efforts of a heroic nurse.

The 13-year-old tumbled from a roof above a supermarket in Largs, Glasgow on Saturday at around midnight.

A resident heard screams in the street and called an ambulance for the young schoolgirl after spotting her, the Daily Record reported.

A nurse rushed out from a taxi and began performing CPR on the girl until paramedics arrived.

She could not be saved however, and died at the scene.

Her death is not being treated as suspicious.

The shaken resident who had called 999 said: "It was awful.

"I heard a thud from outside and then lots of screaming from my window.

"I saw the girl lying on the pavement and shouted out the window that I was phoning an ambulance.

"A nurse even jumped out of a taxi and tried doing CPR while the ambulance was on its way.

"There were young people outside shouting and screaming, I'm not sure if they were friends she was with.

"The whole thing was grim. It was really horrible."

Another resident who lives behind the street said she was shocked when she saw floral tributes on the pavement.

She said: "It’s really sad, especially just before Father’s Day.

"I got up this morning and saw bouquets of flowers outside the next to Tesco and a teddy.

"I know there is a way you can climb up to sit on the roof above Tesco and the opticians. Sometimes kids climb up and sit there. It’s just awful."

Heartbroken pals sobbed outside the Tesco Express as they laid flowers and teddies in memory of the schoolgirl.

One tribute read: "Fly high gorgeous."

Another said: "I hope you are at peace now. You will be missed."

A police spokesperson said: "Around 11.45pm on Saturday June 19, police were made aware a 13-year-old girl had been injured after falling from the roof of a building in Aitken Street, Largs.

"Emergency services attended and the girl was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Enquiries are ongoing, however, there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death."
