Schoolgirl, 13, 'booted off bus for being 10p short as driver kept her money'

An angry dad claims a driver ordered his anxious 13-year-old daughter off his bus for being 10p short on her fare - and says he kept her money.

She couldn't get to school after being told to leave the Arriva bus with her lessons soon to start.

The schoolgirl suffers with anxiety and she was so distressed that she vomited in the street after reportedly being removed from the vehicle.

Her dad Gary Jones says he is furious with the driver of the bus in Bootle, Liverpool. The parent told the ECHO he was "fuming" about the incident - and wanted a written apology from the driver.

He said: "She got on and she handed over her money and the driver said 'you're 10p short, you will have to get off the bus'.

"She just got off on Southport Road but he kept her money as well. She suffers with anxiety and I have taken her to the doctors, and she threw up while she was walking away.

"I had to get my older daughter to take her to school.

"It is out of order, it isn't right."

Mr Jones says he contacted Arriva the same day - October 23 - and was told customer services would look into the incident and respond within 10 days.

The dad claims he received a phone call offering a three month bus pass and an apology.

He said: "They told me the driver was being dealt with in a disciplinary but they couldn't tell me the details.

"I wanted an explanation of why he done it and a written apology, but they won't give me that."

Arriva said they could not comment on internal disciplinary cases when contacted by the Liverpool Echo.

Mirror Online has also contacted Arriva for comment.
