A schoolgirl has died following a farmyard accident in Donegal.
The 11-year-old sadly lost her life following an incident involving a tractor in the Malin area of the county shortly after 5pm.
The child was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was removed to Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry.
A local councillor told The Irish Mirror: "This is an absolute tragedy to happen in what is usually a peaceful area.
"My thoughts are with her family at the troubling time."
The Health and Safety Authority have been made aware of the situation and will investigate it.
A Garda spokeswoman said: "Gardaí in Carndonagh are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a female child following a farm accident in the Malin area, Inishowen, Co. Donegal.
"The incident occurred at approximately 5.20pm this afternoon, 13th May 2020.
"The child was pronounced dead at the scene and her body removed to Altnagelvin Area Hospital, Co. Derry.
"The scene is currently preserved for a full technical examination and the local Coroner has been notified.
"The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) have been notified and investigations are continuing."
