Schoolgirl, 10, left frightened after man with a dog approaches her on Ayrshire street

A 10-year-old schoolgirl has been left frightened after a stranger approached her in the street.

The youngster was on Glebe Crescent in Maybole on Tuesday night when the man approached and spoke to her.

Police have not divulged the nature of the conversation but have said they are keen to trace the man and are now giving the area "extra attention".

The man is described as quite tall, slim and was possibly wearing a hat or had his hood up; he also had a dog with him.

Detective Constable Suzanne Gardiner from the public protection unit said: “This has been a frightening experience for the young girl involved and we are keen to trace the man in question.

“Anyone who may have seen someone fitting his description in the area that night or who has any information, is asked to contact police via 101 quoting incident reference 3676 of August 17.

“Enquiries are ongoing and officers will give the area extra attention.”
