Schoolgirl, 10, fighting for life after being hit by ambulance responding to 999 call in Nottinghamshire

A 10-year-old schoolgirl is fighting for her life in hospital after she was hit by an ambulance responding to a 999 call.

The girl was struck by the ambulance in the town of Bulwell, Nottinghamshire, at 6.30pm on Sunday.

Detectives have confirmed they are investigating the collision and the circumstances surrounding it.

At 10.30pm last night she remained in a critical condition and was undergoing treatment at Nottingham's Queens Medical Centre.

Pictures from the scene show the ambulance in the road with a smashed windscreen and dented bonnet, surrounded by a number of police and forensic vehicles.

Its positioning shows it was approaching a set of traffic lights.

East Midlands Ambulance Service released a statement several hours after the incident confirming the service vehicle had been responding to a 999 call when the collision happened.

Deputy director of operations Dave Williams said: "Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this incident. The police are now carrying out an investigation into what happened and it is, therefore, inappropriate to make any further comment at this time.”
