A dress rehearsal was held Sunday of a cultural performance that will be part of the ceremony to transfer the Olympic flame from Greece to Japan for the torch relay of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The opening portion of the rehearsal, which was held in Chiba on Sunday, was shown to the press.
About 140 people ranging from elementary school students to high school students were dressed in costumes representing the torch and sunlight. They performed lively dances inspired by Japanese myths and festivals.
"I hope we can convey the smiles of children and their powerful performances," said director Hiro, a member of the popular dance and singing group Exile.
After the torch's flame is lit on March 12 and it travels through Greece, the handover ceremony will be held at Panathenaic Stadium in Athens on May 19.
