Schoolchildren raise nearly £400 for Dogs Trust Manchester to improve lives of shelter's residents

Children from a Little Lever primary school have raised nearly £400 for DogsTrust Manchester with a variety of fundraising events.

More than 80 pupils from Years Five and Six at Masefield Primary School managed to collect funds totalling £353.60 through organised events, such as a yellow and black themed non-uniform day, to represent the colours of Dogs Trust.

They also ran a stall at school selling everything from dog treats and poo collection bags, along with games including ‘guess the name of the cuddly dog’.

Two pupils were then invited to visit the rescue centre with teaching assistants Natalie Greenhalgh and Claire Wood, to see where the money raised could be spent improving the lives of the shelter’s residents.

As reported by Dogs Trust, Natalie said: “We have lots of dog lovers in the school, so we decided to raise money for Dogs Trust which does such a great job finding homes for thousands of dogs in need of new families, every year.

“We were shown around the centre and got a really good understanding of what it takes to find dogs their perfect homes and what they need whilst they are patiently waiting at Dogs Trust, so we know the money will be put to good use!”

Dogs Trust Manchester recently celebrated their seventh anniversary which coincided with the 130th year of the charity being formed.

Since the Manchester branch opened, over 5,481 dogs have found their forever homes and more than 400 have benefited from care by volunteer foster carers until they were ready to find their new families.

A spokesperson for the rescue said: “This year Dogs Trust is celebrating its 130th anniversary and it is thanks to the support of dog lovers like the pupils at Masefield Primary School that we are able to be here for dogs when they need us most.

“Every penny raised will help us make sure that dogs in our care have everything they need until they find new forever homes, so we’d like to say a huge thank you to the school for choosing Dogs Trust and for raising such a great amount for our beautiful dogs.”
