Schoolboys' amazing gesture to help welcome Afghan children

Two generous eight-year-old brothers have issued a heart-warming welcome to Afghan refugees arriving in the city and donated a huge collection of toys.

Ethan and Jack Connor have shown many adults how to act with compassion, after they organised a collection for children who have escaped from the country after the Taliban takeover.

The first 100 Afghans have arrived in Liverpool and are currently being supported in a hotel in the south of the city.

Jack and Ethan, who live in Aigburth, were on holiday when they read about the crisis in Afghanistan and found out that Liverpool would be taking escaping families.

They immediately wanted to help, so gathered some of their best toys to donate to the children who have arrived in Liverpool.

The kind-hearted boys also wrote a letter to the children, welcoming them to the city.

The letter said: "Hello, welcome to Liverpool, your new home.

"There's lots of fun things to do here, we are happy that you got here safely.

"You will make lots of new friends, here's some good toys for you to play with, we hope you like them - from Ethan and Jack."

Donations have been pouring in from across the city to charities that are supporting those arriving from Afghanistan and other refugees and asylum seekers based in Liverpool.

Ethan and Jack's mum, Sharon Connor said: "We were on holiday and the boys read a piece in the ECHO about the situation in Afghanistan and that families and children had arrived in Liverpool.

"We talked about it and the boys were sad for the children and said everyone should be safe.

"They said they wanted to do something to try and put a smile on the children's faces."

There are a number of charities and organisations in Liverpool working to support Afghan refugees and others who have fled conflict and persecution.
