Boy, 7, seriously injured after being mowed down by car in Edinburgh

A schoolboy has been seriously injured after being mowed down by a car in Edinburgh.

The seven-year-old was knocked down by a Toyota C-HR car around 9.20pm last night on Abercorn Terrace.

The child was rushed to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children where his condition is now being described as stable.

The driver of the Toyota was uninjured.

Police have now launched an investigation in the Portobello area of the city and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Sergeant Peter Scott of the Edinburgh Road Policing Unit said: "We are carrying out enquiries to establish the full circumstances which led to this incident."

"I would urge any witnesses or anyone who have dashcam or private CCTV footage to contact police."

"You can pass information by calling 101, quoting incident 4084 of 24 June."
