A schoolboy has been taken to hospital after being hit by a car in Hyde town centre.

Emergency services were scrambled to Mottram Road shortly before 6pm on Saturday evening.

A small section of Mottram Road, close to Morrison's, was taped off with a police cordon earlier on Saturday evening but has since been re-opened.

Police have not confirmed the age of the boy but said he was of 'primary school' age.

A GMP spokesperson said: "A boy was taken to hospital after he was hit by a car and his injuries are not thought to be life threatening at this stage.

"Police were informed by the ambulance service of the collision shortly after 5.50pm on Saturday.

"We can confirm the boy was under 18 and of primary school age."
