A schoolboy at Hamilton College received a special letter from Buckingham Palace after writing a sympathy card to The Queen.
Eight-year old Blyth M Robertson expressed his condolences following the passing of HRH Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh.
The kind-hearted pupil from Airdrie wrote a sincere message offering Queen Elizabeth sympathy after the death of her beloved husband.
The monarch soon responded with a letter of thanks to Blyth, who was delighted to hear from her.
Blyth said: “I am very proud to receive this card and I will treasure it forever.”
The thoughtful schoolboy’s letter of sympathy read: “Dear Queen Elizabeth II.
“I am sorry about The Duke of Edinburgh. I hope you’re not too sad.
“Yours sincerely, Blyth M Robertson (8).”
Hamilton College shared a video of Blyth opening his letter from Buckingham Palace as proud teacher Mrs Linda Tonner congratulated him on the gesture, saying “what a lovely kind thing to do”.
The Queen's personal letter to Blyth thanked him for his card, saying: "I send you my sincere thanks for your kind words of sympathy on the death of my husband".
Mrs Jenny Paterson, head of junior school and nursery at Hamilton College said: “Compassion is one of the six values we instil in all our learners and I am delighted that Blyth is being recognised for his kind heart and thoughtfulness.
“Blyth is a committed pupil at Hamilton College in both his school work and actioning all the Values of Grace, Compassion, Confidence, Innovation, Wisdom and Reflection.
“Everyone in the Hamilton College Family is very proud of Blyth”.
This isn’t the first time Blyth has shown compassion and kindness.
During lockdown, the youngster frequently phoned his elderly neighbour to talk and make sure they were doing well and he also tied red ribbons on his church gates for Remembrance Day on behalf of his family and Hamilton College.
