Schoolboy hit by police van in rush hour crash

A schoolboy was hit by a police van this morning in Liverpool.

Police confirmed officers were called to Great Homer Street at around 8.50am on Friday, September 17 to reports of a collision in the road between a boy and a police vehicle.

A witness told the ECHO that the crash took place near Notre Dame Catholic College. It is not clear if the boy is a pupil at the school.

The boy was treated at the scene by paramedics but is not believed to have been seriously injured.

He was taken to hospital to be checked over.

The driver of the police van stopped and is assisting officers with enquiries.

A Merseyside police spokesperson said: "We were contacted at 8.50am today, Friday 17th September, following reports of a collision between a pedestrian and a police vehicle on Great Homer Street in Liverpool.

"The pedestrian, a schoolboy, was treated at the scene by paramedics. He is not believed to have been seriously injured but has been taken to hospital to be checked over.

"The male driver of the van stopped at the scene and is assisting with enquiries.

"Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to DM @MerPolCC or @MerPolTraffic quoting reference 21000647497."
