Schoolboy cyclist taken to hospital after crash involving van in Prestwich

A 12-year-old boy has been taken to hospital after a crash in Prestwich .

The young cyclist was involved in a collision with a van on Kings Road, near the junction with Bury New Road at 1.15pm on Friday lunchtime.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene and officers closed Bury New Road. The boy was taken to hospital by ambulance.

The seriousness of his injuries are not yet known.

Kings Road has since reopened.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "We were called to a road traffic collision between a cyclist and a van at Kings Road near the junction of Bury New Road at 1.14pm.

"The cyclist was taken to hospital. The road was blocked but has now reopened.

"The boy was 12 years old."
