He said that Cillian was "bubbly and caring and incredibly kind" and says his tragic death has devastated the local community.

Cillian was also a "gifted with a cheeky smile" whose love of sport showed a "vivacious appetite" for life.

"The natural order has been shattered. No parent expects to face the death of one of their children, especially at such a tender age.

"The sudden nature of Cillian’s death has intensified for all who love him, the deep sense of pain and loss that comes with grief."

The priest also recalled how the young boy had recently intervened when another pupil was being bullied.

"Cillian wasn't scared to show that he cared. What a wonderful legacy for anyone to leave behind, even if it was such a short life," he said.

After requiem mass, the funeral proceeded to the city's Roselawn Crematorium where his body was laid to rest.

Fr Gary Donegan paid tribute the boy who was a popular figure in the local area.
