A teenage boy has died following an incident at a waterfall in West Yorkshire.

A large emergency response was seen around Goit Stock Woods on Tuesday evening, with several ambulances in attendance.

Emergency teams attended following reports a 14-year-old boy was in difficulty after entering the water at Goit Stock waterfall in the village of Cullingworth, near Bradford.

Officers are appealing for any witnesses to come forward, in particular a group of males who tried to help the boy.

The circumstances of the boy’s death are not believed to be suspicious, the police said.

West Yorkshire police said in a statement: “Emergency services were called just after 6pm yesterday evening to reports of a concern for safety.

“A 14-year-old male had entered the water and got into difficulty.

“Emergency services attended, including fire service, ambulance and underwater rescue teams and recovered a body from the water.

“Police are appealing for witnesses of the incident and in particular, there was a group of males in the area who tried to help the teenager and police would urge them or anyone in the area to come forward and assist with the circumstances of the incident.”

The statement said that there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, adding that a file has been prepared for the coroner.

Tuesday saw temperatures soar across many parts of the UK, reaching a high of 24.5C at Kew Gardens in west London. The sunny conditions coincided with England’s easing of lockdown measures, leading many people to make the most of the weather and gather in parks across the country.

As of Monday, groups of up to six or two households, are able to socialise in parks and gardens.
