Schoolboy, 12, seriously injured after being hit by train at Prestwick Town station

A schoolboy has been rushed to hospital with serious injuries after being struck by a train tonight.

The 12-year-old was hit at Prestwick Town around 7.20pm.

Emergency services raced to the scene and trains were sent straight through the station this evening until the platforms were re-opened.

The boy has been taken to hospital via ambulance for treatment and his parents have been informed.

Transport cops are treating the incident as an accident.

A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to Prestwick Town railway station just after 7.20pm this evening after reports of a 12-year-old boy being struck by a train.

"Colleagues from Police Scotland also attended.

"The ambulance service is in the process of transporting the young man to hospital.

"His injuries are believed to be serious.

"The incident is currently being treated as an accident.

"The boy’s parents have been informed and are on their way to the hospital."
