'Much loved' schoolboy, 12, killed after being hit by car while riding bike

A schoolboy who was seriously injured when he was struck by a car while riding his bike has died, police have confirmed.

Riley Young-Hudson passed away in the early hours of today, three days after he was involved in a collision with an Audi A3 at 4.15pm on Friday, reports Gazette Live.

The 12-year-old pupil was airlifted from the scene in Stockton to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle with significant injuries but could not be saved.

His family paid tribute to Riley, saying: “Riley is a much loved son, brother and grandson and our family are devastated by his loss.”

A fundraiser has been set up for his grieving family by a friend from Stockton.

The A177 remained closed for several hours in both directions as North East Ambulance Service and the Great North Air Ambulance teams carried out treatment.

No-one has been arrested in connection with the incident, Cleveland Police confirmed.
