Schoolboy, 12, charged after Old Firm race hate chant claim

A 12-year-old boy has been charged in connection with racist chants at an Old Firm match.

confirmed this afternoon the schoolboy has been reported to the children's panel after it's claimed abuse was directed at a Rangers player during the match at Celtic Park.

Superintendent Mark Sutherland said: "Abuse of any form is completely unacceptable and Police Scotland will continue to rigorously investigate any reports of abuse we receive and bring those responsible before the relevant authorities."

Police were called in to investigate following the alleged incident during the Celtic v Rangers clash on Sunday, December 29.

Superintendent Sutherland added: "We'd remind the public that, as the person charged is below the age of 18, he cannot be named or identified for legal reasons."
