Schoolboy, 11, remains in critical condition in hospital after being hit by a car

An 11-year-old boy who was hit by a car in Birkenhead town centre is still in a critical condition.

The boy was hit by a Mercedes at around 3.20pm on Sunday afternoon, on Borough Road in Birkenhead .

He suffered a head injury and was airlifted to hospital. 

Witnesses told the ECHO that the boy was on a bike when he was hit by the car.

This morning police have said that the boy remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital.

The driver, a man in his 50s, stopped at the scene and helped police with their enquiries.

Police were seen examining a Mercedes at the scene after the accident.

A witness said  "A young boy been knocked off his pedal bike seems to be in a bad way. The helicopter landed right outside my home."
