Schoolboy, 11, gets stolen bike back after stranger returns it

An 11-year-old boy had his bike returned after it was stolen yesterday while he shopped for puppy pads after school.

Declan Adamson had gone to the shop on his bike, which was a Christmas present, when a man made off with it.

The boy left his Carrera mountain bike outside as he quickly popped into the One Below shop on St Chad's Parade in Kirkby around 3pm yesterday.

He was left 'shaken' by the incident, with a security guard having to call his mum to tell her the news.

But today the family were told the bike had been returned to the same shop and were invited to come back and collect it.

Declan's mum Bekah Smith said that the family are "thrilled" to have the bike back.

The 31-year-old told the ECHO : "[Declan is] much better now, and happy he doesn’t have to walk to school!

"Next time he gets puppy pads he will make sure to keep [his bike] locked up."

Declan had taken the day after the incident off school as he was experiencing anxiety.

It was later in the day that a call from security told the family that the bike had been returned.

Bekah said: "He had the day off school cos his anxiety was up the wall.

"I’ve just been on my first driving lesson and came back and they’d had a call while I was out to say it had been handed into security.

"[We] don’t know who had it but we’re just thrilled to have it back after so much bad luck."
