Schoolboy, 11, fighting for life after ‘hit and run’ in south London

An 11-year-old schoolboy is fighting for life in hospital after a suspected hit and run in south London.

The young boy was hit by a car on Court Road, Orpington, outside a petrol garage on Saturday afternoon, at about 6.50pm.

Police said a driver was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and making off from the scene of an accident.

A spokesman for the police said the driver of the car involved “did not initially stop at the scene, but came to a halt a short distance away”.

The youngster was rushed to hospital after the crash and his condition has been described as critical, police said.

His next of kin have been informed.

A spokesman for the police said: “The car involved did not initially stop at the scene but came to a halt a short distance away.

“The driver - a man - was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and making off from the scene of an accident. He remains in custody at a south London police station.

“A scene remains in place in Court Road and enquiries into the circumstances continue.”
