School trips everyone from Dublin will remember

There are certain Dublin locations that were or are still beloved choices for school trips.

You know you are a true Dubliner if you paid any or even all of these places a visit back in your school days.

The typical school trips for Dubliners often didn't venture outside of the county border but in fairness, the capital has a lot to offer and who in their right mind would want to take a group of hyper children for longer than a 20-minute bus drive.

Fort Lucan

Since its opening back in 1993, Fort Lucan has seen over 1.5 million children through its gates.

Dublin's biggest adventure playground has been a popular school trip destination for close to 30 years and it's easy knowing why. From water slides to cray golf, the Lucan location has something for everyone. Back in the day, the Coca Cola slide was the most nerve-wracking experience. Oh to be young again!

Dublin Zoo

Dublin 200 has set ambitious targets for Dublin Zoo (Dublin Zoo)

As capital dwellers, we have spent our fair share of hours strolling through Dublin Zoo marvelling at all the exotic animals and wondering how they cope in our weather. However, there is something about visiting the zoo with your school pals that makes it that bit special. We have fond memories of racing our friends to the souvenir shop to help each other pick out an animal keychain that our nanny would love.

One of Ireland's oldest castles dating back to the 12th century, you know you're a Dubliner if you've been taken on a school trip here. With your packed lunch and a supply of Capri Suns, there was nothing sweeter than a fine day to eat your lunch with your pals on the grass after the castle tour.

Coca-Cola Factory

'80s kids will fondly remember the bus pulling up on the Naas Road to pay a visit to the Coca Cola factory. It was pretty cool to see how the drink was made in person.

Who remembers learning all about the history of the iconic fizzy drink with cans of coke being given as prizes for answering the pop quiz questions correctly? The coca-cola branded stationery was the icing on the cake.

If your teacher was an avid history fan, then you most definitely paid a visit to Kilmainham Gaol.

We're not going to lie, some of us hid behind our friends when it came to seeing some of the prison cells - we've all been told about the ghost stories.
